Trace the public copyright-record evidence around a film or TV work.
Use this workflow when an agent needs a structured evidence dossier rather than a candidate list, with work disambiguation, maintained Copyright Office records, exact provenance, bounded relationships, freshness, and explicit evidence gaps.
When this task fits
Use filmrightsproof.trace_public_rights for a bounded public-record film, television, or underlying-work dossier. It is not a definitive ownership opinion, clear-title or E&O clearance, exhaustive chain of title, private-contract analysis, or proof that no public match means no rights exist.
Required facts
The work title is required.
Creator, year, and work type are optional but help separate similarly titled works.
An optional limit from 1 to 20 bounds candidates returned or inspected.
The durable bulk evidence currently ends June 27, 2025. Automated CPRS JSON lookup is disabled pending a supported interface or written authorization.
Evaluate fit without paying
Call filmrightsproof.search_public_records first. It is free and returns bounded candidate public records plus freshness state. Use the paid trace only when reconciled evidence, provenance, source-supported relationships, ambiguity, and reusable dossier packaging add value beyond candidate lookup.
Price and purchase boundary
$0.50 USD per completed authorized invocation. The service preflights input, authoritative-corpus readiness, and payment-runtime readiness before completing paid work. A payment challenge or attempt is not a delivered result. The live capabilities document is authoritative for available MPP payment methods.
MCP example
Tool: filmrightsproof.trace_public_rights
{
"title": "Example Motion Picture",
"year": 1972,
"workType": "motion picture",
"limit": 10
}This is a synthetic request. Replace the title and hints with the work being researched.
Representative structured result
{
"schemaVersion": "trace-public-rights.v1",
"status": "partial_recorded_lineage",
"freshness": {
"evidenceStatus": "...",
"searchScope": "...",
"sourceMix": "..."
},
"evidence": ["..."],
"limitations": ["..."]
}The shape above is illustrative and synthetic. Inspect OpenAPI and the live tool output schema for the complete contract. Valid bounded outcomes can include recorded lineage, partial lineage, ambiguous work identity, no match within the searched scope, or insufficient public evidence.
Evidence and limitations
FilmRightsProof preserves registrations, renewals, recordations, terminations, cancellations, provenance, and recorded relationships only where the maintained source supports them. Public recordation labels can be non-directional, and the service does not infer present ownership, legal effect, or private rights that are not established by the record.
Freshness matters
The maintained bulk substrate is bounded through June 27, 2025. Current CPRS automation is disabled. Inspect freshness.evidenceStatus, freshness.searchScope, freshness.sourceMix, and observation time rather than treating a result as current merely because it was returned today.
Retry safely
If payment settled but delivery failed, retry the identical request with the identical payment credential. The existing recovery contract can reuse the prior settlement without another charge.
